The things we forget

Looking at a post on tex.stackexchange.com I found myself digging into man pages to find out about some (comparatively) new options on the modern TeX engines and not remembering what virTeX was (it’s TeX with no format preloaded). Along the way of refreshing my memory, I stumbled upon this post from thirty years ago (almost exactly, in fact), which reveals that (a) once upon a time, this was part of my basic knowledge and (2) my recollections that during my maintenance on the VAX/VMS port of TeX I did, in fact, create the first TeX executable with iniTeX built in to the same executable as TeX and accessed via a command-line switch.
